FLORACION
STREET MURAL

FLORACION STREET MURAL

July 2021

In Partnership with Wisconsin Bike Federation, Sixteenth Street Community Heath Center and Milwaukee’s Department of Public Health, LUNA was commissioned to create a mid-block street mural in the Walker Square neighborhood as a part of Milwaukee Safe & Healthy Streets. "Floración" meaning blooming in Spanish, was created by 25+ community members over the course of three days. These community paint sessions were led by Katie Avila and Whitney Salgado.

The design was created by local artist Whitney Salgado and is currently on view at 1029 Washington Street. From above, this piece shows a woman's face surrounded by colorful flowers that nod to Latinx culture. Flowers grow from and around her, representing growth and deep connection to her surroundings.
