Summer 2024
In partnership with City of Milwaukee, Near West Side Partners and Sixteenth Street Community Center, we received a $25,000 Bloomberg Philanthropies Asphalt Art Initiative grant to enhance street safety by repurposing two hazardous right-turn lanes at North 27th Street and West Highland Avenue and at South 16th Street and West Lapham Boulevard. This initiative not only beautified the area with vibrant murals but also improved pedestrian and cyclist safety, making it safer to walk, bike, or wait for public transit at these busy intersections.
The mural on North 27th Street and Highland was designed by Phoenix S. Brown with input from students from Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
