South Side en la Hora Mágica, 2026

South Side en la Hora Mágica is a 715-square-foot mural commissioned by the Milwaukee Brewers for Paletería Yayo on Milwaukee’s South Side. The project also engaged 4th-grade students from Lincoln Avenue Elementary School, whose ideas and artwork helped inform the mural’s design and connected the students directly to a major public art project in their neighborhood.
6th Street Next, 2026

6th Street Next is a transformative corridor project focused on reconnecting neighborhoods along 2.6 miles of 6th Street between National Avenue and North Avenue. As a subconsultant to HNTB, Luna Creative Collaborations supported community engagement and helped bring a people-centered, culturally informed perspective to the planning process. Luna also developed and led a walking and documenting tour, inviting community members to explore the corridor, share stories, and consider what they want the future of 6th Street to look and feel like.

Right-Turn Slip Lane Project transformed two hazardous right-turn lanes at North 27th Street + West Highland Avenue and South 16th Street + West Lapham Boulevard into vibrant public spaces through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Asphalt Art Initiative. Luna Creative Collaborations helped secure grant funding for the project and led project coordination and artist and community engagement, working alongside the City of Milwaukee, Near West Side Partners, Sixteenth Street Community Center, local students, youth, artists, and neighborhood volunteers to bring the project to life. The project received a 2025 Mayor’s Design Award recognizing its contribution to Milwaukee’s neighborhoods.
WaterMarks 2024-2026

WaterMarks is a citywide initiative connecting Milwaukee communities to the water systems that shape our city. Through Luna Creative Collaborations, Katie Avila Loughmiller supported the initiative through community engagement, partnership development, programming, and project management, working across a network of artists, educators, community organizations, and water-focused partners. Katie's work included supporting the Community-University Working Group and its evolution into the WaterMarks Community Action Network (CAN), developing community programming, and creating opportunities for Milwaukeeans to connect with water through art, learning, and place.

Floración, meaning “blooming” in Spanish, was first commissioned in 2021 as part of Milwaukee’s Safe & Healthy Streets initiative in the Walker Square neighborhood. Commissioned by the Wisconsin Bike Federation, Sixteenth Street Community Health Center, and Milwaukee’s Department of Public Health, the project brought Whitney Salgado’s design to life through three days of community painting with more than 25 neighborhood participants. In 2022, Luna returned to repaint and refresh the mural, helping brighten and extend the life of a work the community had embraced.
Hyphenated Americans, 2021

Hyphenated Americans, curated by Luna founder Katie Avila Loughmiller, brought together a group of artists exploring the complexities of Latin American identity and belonging in the United States. Through personal and culturally rooted works, the exhibition considered the many ways people navigate heritage, community, memory, and lived experience—and challenged the idea that there is any one way to live "Latino/a/x/e."
The exhibition celebrated the connections that bring communities together while making space for the distinct histories, cultures, and identities that exist within them.
